The Royal Mint has launched two collectible 50p coins celebrating 60 years of Star Trek, with prices starting from £19.95 and the full two-coin set priced at £59.90. The Royal Mint Star Trek coins went on sale from 9am on Thursday 3 September, with one design available immediately as an individual purchase and the second due to follow as a standalone coin from November.
A 50p coin, for those unfamiliar, is UK legal tender minted to a specific design and sold directly to collectors rather than circulated in everyday change. These pieces sit within a long tradition of commemorative coinage produced by the Royal Mint for anniversaries, cultural events and popular franchises.
What the Royal Mint Star Trek coin designs show
The first coin carries the Vulcan salute, the hand gesture made famous by the franchise, alongside the phrases ‘Live long and prosper’ and ‘Star Trek 60’. The second coin showcases four spacecraft drawn from different eras of the Star Trek universe, again marked with the words ‘Star Trek 60’.
Some versions of the coins feature colour, which the Royal Mint says is a deliberate nod to the vivid costumes worn by crew members in the original television series. The choice of colour is tied to the era: advances in colour television during the 1960s made those bold uniform shades a defining visual element of the show.

Pricing and availability of the Star Trek 60 collection
Both coins can be bought together from 3 September. The Vulcan Salute coin is also available as an individual purchase from that date, while the spacecraft coin will be available to buy on its own from November. Individual coin prices start from £19.95, and the full two-coin collection is priced at £59.90, according to the Royal Mint’s own product listing.
The staggered release schedule means collectors who want the complete set can secure both pieces from launch day, while those interested only in one design have more time to decide on the spacecraft coin before it becomes available separately.
Why Star Trek and why now
Star Trek first aired in 1966, making 2026 its 60th anniversary. The franchise has expanded across multiple television series, films and spin-offs over those six decades, building what Paramount‘s Ruth Henriquez described as ‘one of the most dedicated collector communities in the world’. Henriquez, vice president of products and experiences at Paramount EMEA, said the coins are ‘a tribute to 60 years of the franchise’.
