Year 4: Health, Safety and Child Protection
Children should be taught the following:
- How to stay safe online
- Which websites and search engines they can use
- What to do if they come across inappropriate material
- What to do if they are contacted by a stranger
- When online they should never reveal personal details including their name
- How to use email safely and respectfully, remembering that something that might hurt someone face to face, can still hurt them in an email
- That some attachments in emails can contain viruses and that they should check with an adult before they open attachments
Teachers should know the following:
- The school’s acceptable use policy regarding ICT
- The Health and Safety regulations as outlined in the school policy
- That Google is not an appropriate search engine for children
- That virus protection is an important feature and should be installed and updated on all computers
- How to prevent viruses infecting machines
- That Cyberbullying is an important issue that all teachers need to be aware of
- The school’s policy on cyberbullying and how to deal with any instances
