Materials and Their Properties
At Bryn
Primary School to take account for split year classes we follow our Science
Scheme Of Work on a two year cycle. For Cycle 1 we follow Year One, Three
and Five of the S.o.W and for Cycle 2 we follow Year Two, Four and Six
of the S.o.W. This ensures continuity and progression and stops any unnecessary
repetition of work.
I currently
teach a Year 3/4 class and our Science unit is Materials and Their Properties.
The unit is an interesting one as it really gets the children to think
about all the things that are around them. What are they made of? Why
have certain materials been used? Why have other materials not been used?
The unit also gives us a great opportunity to perform investigative work.
I have included
my planning for five weeks covering part of the unit. There are also photographs
of the investigations in progress and various outcomes including reports
which the children originally set out using a DTP package called Textease
2000.
I hope that
you find the information useful.
