To support class theme of "Water".

To explore water and its properties.

Water can be used to reflect images.

To look at how other artists have used reflection in their work with water.

To produce simple paintings with a reflection, linked to paper folding with a line of symmetry.

Use ICT to record their creative work

To visit the local canal and take pictures so that we can discuss the reflections seen.

If possible take pictures over a period of time so that light and shade is different.

Children work in groups to study a photograph or painting then make a list of interesting words to accompany it.

Children prepare their papers by applying a wash either using sponges or large brushes. When paper is dry children fold into a half. This is their line of symmetry. Also remind them that they have two halves, and that they will apply the paint to the top half.

To use their painting to produce a similar picture using a graphics package.

To compare both pieces of work and discuss both methods used to produce them.
