To develop listening skills.

Identify untuned percussion instruments.

Tambourine

Bells

2-Tone Block

Cabasa

Blindfold

Children will sit in a circle on the carpet. We will look at and guess the names of the instruments and the children will touch and feel them. The children will be encouraged to make sounds with the instruments i.e. loud and quiet.

We will discuss how the instruments can be played and children will be given correct vocabulary - tap, shake, scrape, strike, beat.

To end this session we will play "Kim's game" where one child will be blindfolded and another child will remove one instrument. The blindfold will be removed and the child will be asked to describe the missing instrument. Hopefully they will discuss it's shape, size and how the instrument can be played.

If possible the child will tell us the name of the instrument. The other children then say if he/she is correct. I will continue this game with a few more children in preparation for next week's session.

Does the child:

Make a loud or quiet sound?

Know the name of the instrument?
