Central Infants School is situated in the town of Port Talbot and caters for pupils from three to seven years of age. The surrounding area has features which vary between prosperous and economically disadvantaged. Some housing is privately owned and some is owned by the local authority. Our aims at Central Infants' School are:

  • To create a happy, secure and caring atmosphere in which every child can fulfill his or her potential.
  • To encourage the children to be aware of others in the school and how they behave towards them. We aim to develop a friendly though respectful relationship between children and staff.
  • To stimulate curiosity and interest in the world around them and to build on the children's experiences to develop their early learning.
  • To develop each child's independence, self-confidence and esteem.

Children enter the nursery as soon as a place becomes available after their third birthday. Children are of mixed ability but are often grouped according to different abilities, needs and interests, allowing for a more effective pace of learning.

At present, there are 34 children attending the morning session and 27 children attending the afternoon session. After Easter this figure will rise to 52 in the morning and 52 places afternoon places, with 2 teachers and 2 NNEB staff.
