triangle is a two-dimensional shape with three straight sides and
three angles. There are different types of triangle called equilateral,
isosceles, scalene and right-angled.
square is a special rectangle that has four sides of the same length
and four angles of 90 degrees. It has two pairs of opposite sides
that are parallel.
rectangle is a four-sided shape with two pairs of parallel sides
that meet at right-angles. It has two long sides and two shorter
sides. A square is a special kind of rectangle because all its sides
are the same length.
circle is a round, flat two-dimensional shape where all points on
the circumference are the same distance from the centre.
hexagon is a two-dimensional shape with six straight sides and six
angles. In a regular hexagon all the sides are the same length and
the angles are the same.
pentagon is a two-dimensional shape with five straight sides and
five angles. A regular pentagon has all its sides the same length
and all its angles equal.
trapezium has four sides (a quadrilateral). It has one set of parallel
sides and usually has two obtuse angles and two acute angles. The
angles in an irregular trapezium can all be different sizes.
kite is a four-sided shape. Its adjacent sides (pairs of sides next
to each other) are equal in length. Its diagonals meet at right

the same length and the opposite sides are parallel. Its opposite
sides are equal. It looks like a square which has had a push.
parallelogram is a four-sided shape or quadrilateral. It has two
pairs of parallel sides. Its opposite sides are equal in length.
octagon is a flat shape with eight equal sides and eight equal angles.
that shapes can have line symmetry and rotational symmetry.
